BORDERLINES

a street racer roleplay.

welcome to the city of aelcrest,
where the paths of the youth cross and coalesce on the newly-furnished tar of the racing track. the city is known to be vibrant, populated by young citizens from all over the country looking for a new life - and here they find it, amidst fuel, grease and the noise of an engine's roar.

behind the guise of a normal life, garages hide sleek cars with largely illegal modifications, scattered mechanical parts, and cashboxes filled to the brim with black and laundered money. there are those who sit behind the steering wheels, and there are those who spend their time wiring the undersides of metal shells.

it doesn't matter who you are or which faction you belong to. each line crossed is a border travelled.

the unspoken golden rule of the roads: don't drink and drive, don't crash, and don't get arrested.

it's time to gear up, racers. the competition is on.

welcome to borderlines.

❝ my fire fuels these engines better than any liquid could.❞

ABOUT.

borderlines is a street racing au roleplay set in the fictional, futuristic city of aelcrest.

d.c. and f.o., rival gangs with differing specialties, go head to head on the road, competing to see who will emerge top on the speed records. which will you pledge your allegiance to, and help climb through the worldwide ranks?

all members of borderlines may take up normal civilian lives, but are also involved in at least one of two gangs (see gangs tab for more information), as well as the night racing scene. do you dream of running a cafe where illegal imports pass through, to be shipped to the gang headquarters? do you want to fix and improve cars by day, and race them along treacherous roads by nightfall?

aelcrest is the place for you. whether you are a professional racer or simply speeding for the thrill of it, it's up to you. start your engines, ladies and gentlemen.

ready. get set.

AELCREST.

nmap of aelcrestn

the city comprises five main districts - two districts, districts c & district f, are home to gang d.c. & gang f.o. respectively. the rest are neutral territory, dedicated to fun and racing.

ncity centre (pink)n

the city centre is neutral territory where members of both gangs gather to socialise. it is littered with pubs, cafes, and even features green spaces for residents. remember - don't drink and drive.

twt timeline is set mainly within the city centre (unless otherwise directed by the race organisers).

notable establishments

> the elysian, a famous pub frequented by gang members. the drinks here are cheap and good, the music is trashy, and the atmosphere is cosy and familiar - perfect for a wind-down at the end of the day.

> aelcrest park, a large open space featuring pavilions, shady trees and picnic spots. very family-friendly! this park overlooks the lake.

> aelcrest lake, a glittering body of water dotted with lily pads and abundant with life. residents come here to feed the swans and ducks.

> residences. apart from gang members, citizens also populate the apartments and mansions found here.

nhydropolis (blue)n

the hydropolis is perhaps the most legal place in the city, with high police presence and enforcement. people come here in the day to take a casual spin on the racing track and to show off their skills, to impress or dominate - well within the speed limit.

notable establishments

> the hydron, a (perfectly legal) racing track for safe speeding under watchful eyes.

nwolfden (green)n

the roads here have been repeatedly paved and repaved due to the wear and tear of the tar from racers frequenting this district. positioned by the outskirts of the city, wolfden's streets have been repurposed as night racing tracks.

notable establishments

> nicknamed the wolf den, this worn and familiar stretch of road is used for every underground race out there. racers often come here to practice.

ndistrict cereus (purple)n

a.k.a district c, the gang territory of delta cereus.

notable establishments

> the delta, a registered mechanic shop run by the members of d.c. but it's much more than that. hidden behind the facade, the building opens up to a huge test driving centre, where members are able to race, analyse and improve on existing strategies.

> residences. apart from gang members, citizens also populate the lower-end apartments found here.

ndistrict furvus (yellow)n

a.k.a district f, the gang territory of furvus oberon.

notable establishments

> oberon, a registered mechanic shop run by the members of f.o. but it's much more than that. hidden beneath the facade, the building gives way to a huge underground network of rooms filled with prime technology unseen by the rest of the world, showcased first on the tracks of aelcrest by the members of f.o. themselves.

> residences. apart from gang members, citizens also populate the lower-end apartments found here.

FAQ.

nfrequently asked questions.n

there are so many locations. where is timeline?
timeline will take place in the city centre, which is neutral and friendly ground for both gangs.

if you would like to locate your character elsewhere for plot purposes, make sure to indicate that in your threads or tweets to avoid confusion!

if you are challenging others to a race, make sure to take a drive down with them to wolfden - the city centre is far too heavily populated for a show of speed.

what exactly are legal covers?
your legal cover is your job as officially recognised by the authorities. it is completely optional; you may work full time in the gang.

you may have a separate job aside from your gang position. for example, you can work part-time as a barista while being in a gang as a hacker. you might own a supply business to help cover up your smuggled imports as a procurer. you might even be a doctor while racing professionally at night.

for those who choose to work full-time in a gang, a legal cover is not required as the gangs' positions are already registed as legal jobs under the mechanic shop.

tl;dr it's your job aside from the part you play in the gang.

must/can we still own a racing vehicle even if we aren't professional racers?
owning your own vehicle is optional, but highly encouraged.

every gang member is encouraged to have their own car or bike, preferably built for speed. if you don't want to race, you can still take your baby out for a spin with your friends every now and then!

how do we obtain cars/bikes?
feel free to give your character a pre-existing car/bike of his own.
do make sure to keep the vehicle realistic although this is a futuristic city au setting. also make sure that your character can actually afford the vehicle that he/she owns (unless it's a stolen one, then, well, just be careful out there).

you don't need to know how race cars/bikes work, but if you would like to find out more, check this out.

must we only work in the mechanic shops?
unless you're in administration or tech & mech, you don't necessarily have to be based in the mechanic shop. feel free to set up your character's role in the gang however you like. however, working within the building is encouraged.

can we still race even if we aren't professional racers?
yes.

in an official race set up by the race organisers, professional racers will be given first priority. if there are any other members who would like to compete, you may do so on a volunteer, first-come-first-serve basis.

you can also race casually. challenge your friends along the streets of wolfden, or at the hydron to see who can beat the speed record!

still have questions?
the headquarters welcome any dms! we will be happy to answer questions if you have any.

* disclaimer: this section is here purely for the curious. the information on this page is not necessary for roleplaying in borderlines; there is no need to go into technicalities unless you enjoy nerding out!

how do race cars/bikes work?
on top of the standard high power base vehicles, street racers often add on several (illegal) modifications to their babies.

just to give you an idea of what you can expect, here are some typical racing car/bike models, as well as modifications commonly found on the racing scene!

please bear in mind that godmodding is not allowed.

suggested car models
hp stands for horsepower.

honda nsx — 573hp
porsche 718 boxster — 400hp
nissan 370z — 350hp
toyota supra — 335hp

mods for cars
tires — better grip on the road when driving or rounding curves.

throttle response — faster reaction time of the car when you accelerate.

break system — faster reaction to slow the vehicle

race suspension — supports the weight of the car to turn better at corners and control the impacts from bumps or kerbs to maintain constant contact between the tyre and the road surface.

air intake — forces air faster into the car to cool down the engines. the faster it forces air in, the faster your car goes.

exhaust system — expel the exhaust faster to make the car faster.

turbocharger/supercharger — makes your car faster by 50%, by compressing the air flowing into the engine.

water methanol injection kit — 20% increase in power, spray water directly into the cylinder to cool certain parts of the induction system where "hot points" could produce premature ignition.

camshaft — controls the opening and closing of valves. this, in turn, controls the flow of air and fuel into and out of the engine which determines engine performance, fuel economy and emissions.

roll cage — protects its occupants from being injured or killed in an accident, particularly in the event of a rollover.

suggested bike models
hp stands for horsepower.
higher cc indicates more fuel storage.

rsv4 fw-gp — 1077 cc (250hp)
yamaha r1m — 998cc (200hp)
honda rc213v-s — 1000 cc (101 hp)

mods for bikes
sprockets — reduces bike weight and increasing swiftness. available options: 520, 525, 530

chains of the bike — 520 sized chains reduces the weight of the bike (enhancing speed) and cuts down on friction (increased power)
you will need to change your sprockets too, and it'll be considered as two mods instead of one.

battery — replacing your battery with lighter ones to increase speed.

steering dampers — reduce the amount of shock transferred to your arms.

suspension — supports the weight of you and the bike to turn better at corners.

brakes — faster reaction time to stop.

gears — gearing down (with a larger rear sprocket) is the go-to method for increased acceleration, while gearing up (with a smaller rear sprocket) provides for more top-end speed.

windscreen — less air resistance, making your bike go faster, provided that you're not sitting upright.

frame sliders — protects your bike if you crash.
